Hi all,
I returned to ZT2 after years and years of absence -- I stopped playing shortly after the original Microsoft forum closed, and really only played after that to try out mods. But I had an itch, so I bought the Ultimate Collection direct download off of Amazon.
It works great on Windows 10, but as soon as I download mods, the trouble starts.
The Problem: no audio when starting the game using altered .exe file for widescreen.
I downloaded all of Aurora Designs Radical Remake packages, as well as Hendrix's widescreen fix, both of which worked on my old computer which ran Windows 10 but had disc versions of the game. As soon as I launch the game using the modified .exe for widescreen, the game has no audio. I hear the opening scenes, but once I get into the main menu, it's silent, even when I launch a freeform game or campaign.
Note: I did have the install the .exe under the ZT2UC file --> Files to get it to work, which I didn't have to do before. Could this be the culprit?

What I've Tried:
--> Removing mods one at a time to see if one was the culprit and starting it with both the original zt.exe and the modified zt.exe for widescreen. Neither have sound. The only thing that gives the game sound is opening it with autorun, which doesn't seem to implement the mods.
--> Tried widescreen mod alone, still no audio, so it seems to be the likely culprit.
--> Uninstall and reinstalled the game multiple times.
--> The game downloads to the desktop, and Amazon won't allow me to download it to another location. Moving it from the desktop causes issues regardless of the .exe.
--> I tried the widescreen fix version for the Ultimate Collection with and without a disc. Same issue.
Any ideas? At the very least I'd like to play the game in widescreen. Since the files are organized completely different than my disc version with individual expansions, I'm wondering if the file organization is to blame. Thanks for the help!
